Are you struggling to decide on what to buy your elder for the holidays? I am. Mom is almost 90 and let’s face it, doesn’t need much. Fortunately, Elizabeth Miller of the Happy Healthy Caregiver, spends hours each year compiling a gift guide with unique ideas for family caregivers and their care recipients. It’s a great place to start and it may spark a unique idea of your own.
In her 2021 guide, Elizabeth organized suggestions into the following categories:
- Gifts that Keep Giving
- Gifts for Care Recipients
- Gifts for Caregivers
- Budget Friendly and Fun
- Free Gifts
- Ideas for Giving Tuesday
You can check out her suggestions here: Holiday Gift Guide 2021
If your caree (or you!) are big readers like I am than Elizabeth’s Holiday Book Haul list is a great place to start. You can check out those suggestions here: Holiday Book Haul
I am going to add one of my own favorite books for 2021: Between Two Kingdoms – A Memoir of A life Interrupted by Suleika Jaqouad. Thought provoking and inspiring, it is the memoir of a young woman with terminal cancer. Her insights on her battle and the challenges of navigating the healthcare system is important. Then there is the courage to face survivorship and learning how to thrive again.
A personal favorite of mine are these eight low tech devices that can help someone stay in their home.
Happy shopping! If you have an idea or suggestion for a holiday gift please leave it in the comments.
